so stoked to read this! just backed it as an e-book, and when print copies are available outside of the US i'd love to grab a copy for the trans lending library i help out with :))
I've just read this. I'm not US-based so I couldn't get a hard copy. I have to say I loved it, the first piece of fiction (of any kind really) I've read in a while. As a trans woman myself, I want to say a massive thank you for writing this. There were quite a few "YES that's exactly it!" moments in there. Being marginalised, I find it rare indeed to actually read something that rings true to my own lived experiences. It was refreshing. I wish there was somewhere to discuss the book without the risk of spoilers to those yet to read it, alas I abhor social media of any kind so that's difficult for me. If this actually counts as social media then this is my first foray into it (yes, really). And yes I totally wanted to be a witch when I was little, so living vicariously through Lorel was a thrill for sure. I really want to read the next book now, and find out what happens next to Lorel and her friends.
Thank you again Margaret (not sure you'll read this), you've made an old trans woman very happy!
I'm so glad it resonated with you! It's always strange when you write things that are so personal, because you're never sure what will or won't resonate with other people.
I got the feeling that things in the book were deeply personal, and that was why it felt so special to read. And in a way very realistic with how it portrays experiences that trans folk go through. I wish this book existed 30 years ago when I was facing some of the things Lorel faced. It would have been inspiring for sure. Thank you again Margaret.
I love how everyone went "shut up and take my money"
