I was surprised to see some IG accounts go hard for Russia during the start of the invasion of Ukraine. Folks that were previously all about dialogue all of a sudden shut down any criticism of Russia.

Absolutely wild to see someone be pro queer liberation one second, but then defend homophobia the next, as long as it's Iranian or Russian homophobia.

I kind of like communist as a reclaimed term. It's a word Americans are afraid of, and it's also a pretty useful word to specify that you're definitely anti-capitalism. As opposed to the "socialism" of northern/western Europe. I feel like a lot of American progressives hide behind "socialist" because it's less familiar and sounds less scary. Fuck it. Let's be scary. I'm a communist!

I mean is it a reclaimed word if it fundamentally fails as a meaningful movement? The simple reality is that even theoretically communism is a piss poor idea but when you add onto it the fact that it has a albeit somewhat falsely maligned history, it's just foolish to defend reclaiming it. By all means call yourself a communist and fail at amassing broad support, but don't get mad when the fascists win because communism isn't popular.
