I’m taking the week off of work while I recover from oral surgery, so this week’s post is less of a proper essay and more just a reflection on some things.
I’ll be presenting twice in the Durham / Raleigh / Chapel Hill area in early May as part of the May Day week of action: Friday May 3rd I’ll be presenting a history of May Day in Chapel Hill, with venue to be determined. On Sunday May 5th I’ll be more informally talking about preparedness as part “Comrades in the Commons,” 2pm in Northgate Park in Durham.
Mortars and Pestles With Nerves
I’ve never really believed in “intelligent design” and was fortunate enough to be raised in a household that never doubted evolution. Even my nun aunt taught evolution in Catholic school. But the first time I had an abscessed tooth, sometime in my late twenties while on my first book tour, I laid in my van thinking “yeah there’s no way this was planned.”
This wasn’t a “how could god be so cruel” thought, it was just a realization that if I were designing a mortar and pestle I wouldn’t give it nerves.
